The formation of hierarchy and the position of workers within professional stratification during periods of rapid change is the central idea of this book. It focuses on the paths of two different ethnic groups within the same profession during the period 2020-2023 and seeks to highlight what the change of boundaries signifies for Sociology and their social stratification.
What are the processes through which the workforce is reproduced? In what way are specific professions, such as that of the builder, utilized through their ethnic characteristics? Through a case study in the construction sector in Attica (2020-2023), the book attempts to reveal the patterns and processes of intra-occupational social stratification between Greek and Albanian builders and how divisions and work habits change during times of crisis.
By using records, historical data, and collecting testimonies from the two ethnic groups, this study aims to illuminate the key parameters involved in the stratification of migrant and native workers. At the center is the establishment of new criteria for work or job placements and a new set of relationships that have developed between the two ethnic groups in the same type of work.
The analysis of cultural characteristics, daily life, neighborhood and professional relationships, as well as survival efforts during the crisis come to light through a case study that aims to complement studies in the sociological tradition since 1990.
