I envy the tenacity of the Jirkallis because it remains deeply rooted in the earth of Akantou, withstanding the passage of time and not being violently uprooted, like all of us.

The book you hold in your hands is a heartfelt account that I am making in order to preserve and convey to the new generation of Akantou residents, and not only, the beauties of the village, its cultural and religious traditions, the lifestyle of its inhabitants, the structure of society and the village, the crops, the richness of the wild nature, the economy of the place, and the lives of the children.

In no small measure, I have tried to provide the reader with a series of images and representations of the daily life of Akantou, which remain etched in my mind, no matter how many years have passed.
