Description

An extremely funny and spooky novel for children and teenagers, perfect for horror lovers, that tells the story of a talking skull and a necromancer in training - perfect for readers of Lemony Snicket!

Mallory Vayle has interests that include the usual things, pony books, and definitely NOT talking to the dead. When her parents fall off the Gibbett Bridge, she is led to a weird aunt the family had disowned years before and moves to her new, very scary house. Aunt Lilith, a prank-setting psychologist, exploits Mallory's unique abilities to talk to the dead and starts advertising grandiose spiritual sessions.

The ghosts of her parents also move into the house but are stolen by the shadow of Hellysh Spatzl, the most malicious and unpleasant necromancer of all time. To bring them back, Mallory must learn to use the abilities she hates and resurrect the elder witch. Her teacher? A talking skull named Maggoty, who demands a reward for his help - not only a lovely blonde wig and some shiny jewelry but also to break the curse that has kept him locked in his skull for 500 years.

Mallory will have to embrace who she is and what she can do and agree with the evil Hellysh Spatzl to bring her parents back, while simultaneously organizing an impressive Halloween event with a five-cents ticket for a dazzling audience at the Nightmare Castle. And learn to love her chatty companion and his magnificent wig...

As dark and funny as the Addams Family, so is this story. An alternative creepy Victorian tale full of laughs and subversive characters, at its heart, it's a story about a young girl embracing her own abilities and understanding that no one is 'normal'.
