A wonderful story of love, loss, and community, filled with folklore and magic. I loved it!
A city in need. An extraordinary cat. A time of wonders...
It’s almost Christmas and the determined Londoner, Mina Kestel, is on the verge of signing a deal that will mark her career and give her everything she has ever desired. And then, she receives a mysterious letter in the mail, along with an ancient key, sent by her long-estranged godfather.
Davie Penhalo is an artist living on the small island of Morgelen in Cornwall, with only his cat, Moor, for company. Mina hasn’t seen or heard from Davie in decades, but it seems he wants to entrust her with the care of his cottage – and his cat – while he recovers from a stroke in the hospital. Mina doesn’t know why Davie wrote after so many years, but she intends to do the right thing: tidy up the cottage and the cat, and then return to London in time for her crucial meeting before everything she has built collapses around her.
But the longer Mina spends at the cottage, caring for Moor and remembering the magic of Cornish folklore, the harder it becomes to leave. And when she discovers that a group of ruthless investors is coming for Morgelen, she realizes she might be the only one who can stand in their way to save the island, Davie’s cottage, and Moor’s home.
As Christmas approaches and memories of the past – both her own and those of the island – surround her, Mina begins to uncover a generation of secrets... and discover what it is that she has always desired.
The perfect magical read to relax during the cold winter nights...
