The Ibanez IC420FM Violin Sunburst is a six-string solid-body electric guitar based on the historic, asymmetrical Iceman design introduced by the Japanese company in the mid-1970s. The body is made of solid okoume and features a carved flamed maple top with a gloss finish and multi-ply binding around the edges. It has a three-piece okoume set-in neck with a sculpted heel joint and a 12-inch-radius jatoba fretboard, equipped with 22 medium frets and acrylic/abalone inlays. The electronics feature two passive Ibanez Super 80 humbuckers with decorative metal covers, each with independent volume and tone controls. The hardware is completed by a Gibraltar Performer bridge, a Quik Change III tailpiece and gold-finish Ibanez tuning machines. It comes with a factory gig bag.

Okoume Body & Flamed Maple Top Construction

The body retains the Iceman series’ distinctive offset geometry, combining a solid Okoume base with a carved top made of Flamed Maple. Acoustically, okoume has qualities similar to traditional mahogany, delivering a warm tonal response, rich low-mid frequencies, and sustained resonance. The maple top enhances tonal clarity and attack, while the glossy Violin Sunburst finish highlights the wood’s natural grain. Multi-ply binding protects the body’s perimeter, while the specially contoured back provides stable balance when playing with a strap.

3-Piece Set-In Neck & Jatoba Fingerboard

The neck consists of three parallel pieces of okoume (3-Piece Okoume) and is joined to the body with a glued Set-In Neck construction. The joint features a smoothly sculpted heel, allowing the palm to move freely up to the higher frets. The profile follows the IC Shape geometry, measuring 43 mm at the nut and 57 mm at the 22nd fret. The Jatoba fingerboard has been thermally stabilized, giving it a reddish grain, a hard surface, and a focused midrange response. It has a 12" (305 mm) radius, a 24.75" (628 mm) scale length, 22 Medium frets, and Acrylic & Abalone Block inlays.

Electronics Super 80 & Hardware Mounting System

The electronic system features a pair of passive Ibanez Super 80 pickups with ceramic cores and historically engraved Flying Finger covers. The pickups deliver a bright, clear tone with a highly dynamic response and pronounced treble presence, maintaining articulation at high gain. The circuit includes a 3-way toggle selector, two independent Volume controls, and two Tone controls. The hardware features a low-profile, fixed Gibraltar Performer bridge with individual saddles, a Quik Change III tailpiece for rapid string changes, and gold-plated Die-Cast tuners for reliable tuning stability.
