Basswood Body & Super Wizard Neck Construction

The body of the Ibanez RG550 is made from basswood, a lightweight wood that offers a balanced acoustic profile with clear midrange frequencies. The Super Wizard neck is made from a combination of 5 pieces of maple and walnut, ensuring structural resistance to warping and an exceptionally thin profile (measuring 17 mm at the 1st fret and 19 mm at the 12th fret) for maximum speed. The maple fretboard offers an immediate attack and clarity in the high frequencies.

HSH Pickup Configuration & Tonal Versatility

The guitar is equipped with Ibanez’s classic pickup set: a V7 humbucker in the neck position, an S1 single-coil in the middle position, and a V8 humbucker in the bridge position. The V7 pickup delivers a dynamic, tight sound suited to rhythm parts, the S1 provides clear, traditional tones, while the V8 offers higher output and rich harmonics for solo passages. The 5-way selector switch enables split-coil combinations in the intermediate positions for expanded tonal versatility.

Edge Tremolo System & Tuning Stability

The RG550 features the original Ibanez Edge double-locking tremolo system, a benchmark for tuning stability and precise return to zero. Designed to withstand extreme whammy bar use (dive bombs, pitch bends), the Edge bridge also provides a comfortable contact surface for the right hand when palm muting.
