The present 3rd updated edition of the book comes 10 years after its 2014 publication. In the decade that has passed, cities and spatial planning have been significantly influenced by the expansion of digital applications, the intensity of climate change phenomena, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and broader geopolitical shifts.
The book now includes the significant impacts of these developments on the theories and practices of urban planning. This edition simplifies and improves the structure of the chapters, which are organized into three parts: concepts and theoretical approaches, regulations and policies, applications and examples.
We hope that the new edition will contribute to scientific dialogue, research, and education by complementing and updating the relevant Greek literature in the critical scientific and professional field of sustainable urban development planning, which, as a place of residence for a large part of the population, are sensitive recipients of pressures but also carriers of innovative solutions.
