Description

A chalice from 1888, a gospel from 1740, and a yellowed travel document serve as the catalyst to unfold the true story of Father Nikola. Born in 1873 in a village in the heart of the plains of Adrianople, he grows up under very difficult conditions, like everyone in the region of Thrace, facing constant struggles against Bulgarians and Turks. Despite his tragic losses, he resists, insists on his values, and fights until the brink of execution.

His companions are hardworking individuals, different from him but all connected by the same thread of fate. Love, secrets, fear, dramatic escapes, disappearances, abductions, despair, losses, and quests that lead them to dangerous crossroads.

They will meet prominent personalities of the time, such as the mathematician Konstantinos Karatheodori, the Metropolitan Polycarp Varvaki, the feminist Kalliroi Siganu-Paren, and also the bandit Fotis Giangoulas in the mountains of Olympus.

A book about the struggle of the Thracians and the first genocide among the many that followed, illuminating facets of history in the blood-soaked years, from the Black Easter of the Thracians in 1914 to the refugee crisis and the surrender of the "Triangle of Karagats" in 1923. Pages of steel carved with a knife, soaked in ink of blood. A piece of history that is unknown to many and forgotten by others.

Father Nikola and an entire people that he represents, during a turbulent time for the Thracian population, become the vehicle for us to travel through the last three centuries on a difficult journey from Adrianoupolis to Olympus.
