Description

The main theme of the myth is the struggle of the new and strong social forces to make their way through the barriers set up by the old, aged, and degenerate world and to take the place that belongs to them in life.

The lower, the humble, who rises to the higher society thanks to his virtues and feats, was a popular theme during the Renaissance. Let us also remember our own Erotokritos. The poet illuminates the decayed values and weaknesses of the old as well as the strong elements of the new spirit, the new values that rise (and here science is included as a new value), and with these old and new values, the poet dresses his characters so that they represent both the new and the old spirit.

The probable date of the work's writing is considered to be 1602-1603.
