Timon is the closest relative of King Lear. And with both of them, the poet presents us with the man who believed in an ideal, and the god of this belief betrayed his trust!
With Timon, the ideal is not limited to familial affection; it broadens widely, generally to human love and friendship. That is why he shares his wealth extravagantly: he gives to friendship because friendship deserves it all.
Thus, when he loses this faith and the sun of the ideal that lit up and warmed and beautified the world goes out, Timon sees everything turned upside down, destroyed. A man who believed in an ideal, in the way a true ideologue always believes, can no longer live after the destruction of his ideal.
