Description

A DETAILED GUIDE WITH RELIABLE MEDICAL INFORMATION THAT DEBUNKS MYTHS AND CHANGES THE WAY WE THINK, TALK - AND DON'T TALK - ABOUT THE BODY AND WELLNESS.

A woman is expected to have her period hundreds of times in her life. Despite the importance of menstruation, our education is limited to what pertains to pregnancy. And while that is also very important, every woman should know more about her body than what serves reproduction alone.

In the Bible of periods, gynecologist Jen Gunter, the most trusted modern voice in women's health, explains what is normal, what is concerning, and when to seek medical help. She answers key, period-related questions and informs about topics such as:

  • What exactly happens during menstruation
  • Menstruation and pain
  • The effect of stress and health on the cycle
  • Period migraines, premenstrual syndrome, and period diarrhea
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • The fascinating relationship of the endometrium with the immune system
  • Accepted period products and the truth about toxic shock syndrome
  • Different cultural perceptions of periods and how they affect girls and women

Imagine if it were socially acceptable to answer the question "How are you?" with "I've already changed four pads today" or "I just passed a 2.5-centimeter blood clot," or "To be honest, I feel like I have a hot poker in my vagina, yet I managed to come to the meeting, which we clearly could have avoided by communicating via email." Maybe then more people would take menstruation seriously. I still remember once in the 9th grade when I asked a teacher to go to the bathroom and he said no because he was one of those who believed that a full bladder promotes learning. But I didn't want to urinate; I wanted to change my pad to avoid a critical leakage incident. So I approached the desk and said, "I have my period and I need to change my pad."
