Description

In this work, the reader has the opportunity to study and reflect on how the practice of representative democracy oscillates between its democratic and oligarchic elements and how the people are constantly confronted with its inherent contradictions.

The conclusions of the study are rather pessimistic: in the 21st century, the Greek Republic excludes from the endeavor of its realization the migrants, the "foreigners," those who contribute significantly to its development and prosperity, but do not have the sacred blood of its ancestors. At the same time, it accepts that the quest for equality and social dignity within its territory is the concern of those who, by their origin, bear the immutable, essentialist identity of the Greek, wherever they may be, no matter how far they are from the political and social life of the country.

Nevertheless, the study suggests that we take the principle of popular sovereignty seriously and explores proposals for overcoming the crises we are experiencing that confront us with a real collapse, almost in the clinical sense of the term. Only a democracy of living beings could prevent our extinction. But a prerequisite for this is a democracy open to others and to all others. This is why the phrase from the book "Democracy and Others" is essential, as it opens the door to new continents that have yet to be explored.
