In 1980, Michalis H. Fotopoulos and his wife Maria Fotopoulou began honey production with five beehives in their garden in Akrithochori, Messenia. Initially, they produced honey solely for their family's needs and their friends. By 1983, the number of beehives had increased to 200, and the production was moved to the region of Messenian Mani and the mountains of Taygetus.
From 1994, their son Charalampos Fotopoulos took over the business. He has attended beekeeping seminars and combines his knowledge with the art of his parents. Fotopoulos Beekeeping "Taygetus Honey" is certified with ISO 22000:2005 for the production, packaging, and trade of beekeeping products.
