Suction device in general
- Suction devices for the removal of phlegm, sputum, mucus, and other bodily fluids.
- Most suction devices are portable for easy transportation.
- They consist of a vacuum pump, a regulator and vacuum meter, one or two fluid collection bottles, plastic connecting tubes, and an antibacterial filter.
- The plastic tubing is used for continuous fluid suction into the collection container.
- Suction devices are often used when a patient faces liquid or solid obstruction in the pharynx, trachea, or other oral cavities.
- The use of a portable suction device can assist a patient when they are unable to remove their own secretions.
- This includes patients receiving palliative care, individuals with chronic illnesses, or patients who have undergone a tracheostomy.
- For managing such chronic illnesses, sputum suction devices are available.
- Suction is achieved through the negative pressure produced by the portable suction devices.
- The pressure creates a vacuum effect that draws any fluid out of the throat.
- The secretions are then automatically distributed into the collection container.
- Home suction devices facilitate the suction of phlegm and tracheobronchial suctioning.
- The collection container is recommended to support the use of filters to prevent contamination of the internal components of the aspirator.
