Description

Description

The first volume covers a very critical period, which includes the post-war era, during which the Cyprus issue took on, in addition to its irredentist aspect, an anti-colonial dimension.

It also includes the armed struggle of EOKA, the shift from Union-Self-Determination to Independence, the conclusion to committed independence, with the Zurich-London Agreements and the new crisis that erupted in 1963-1964.

In that year, 1964, the collapse of the Cyprus Republic and the impending Turkish invasion were averted. The status quo that was established, with the arrival of the Greek division, was favorable for the Greek side. It was supposed to withstand the test of time.

However, political instability in Greece, the overthrow of the Papandreou government, and the dictatorship, especially of the colonels on April 21, 1967, changed the political landscape and undermined the conditions of an imposed strategy, which became practically unfeasible.
