It has a chinos cut and is low-rise. However, if you don't have Shakira's waist-hip ratio, go up a size. It is excessively tight at the waist for a low-rise. While I usually wear S (26/36 in pants), I got M because the waistband is very tight, cuts into the crotch, and wouldn't be comfortable at all for activities. However, M is quite loose at the hips, resulting in it being comfortable, but with no good fit (commonly "baggy"). The fabric is nice and warm, with very little weight. I would like it to be a bit more stretchy. I haven't tried it in the rain yet. The legs at the hem are borderline wide for over hiking boots. I wouldn't buy another pair of pants from this company if they have this pattern in the others, because they are made for very curvy female bodies.
