The work takes place chronologically over four periods. It starts at the end of World War II in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. It continues in the modern era, where two young people enjoy a romantic summer vacation in Mykonos.
The third chronological period occurs in the 1980s, mainly in Mykonos and Spetses. The fourth period unfolds at the turn of the millennium, primarily in Geneva and Megeve. The narrative concludes after a series of events between Paris and Geneva.
Nemesis is triggered by a humble girl of Jewish descent, Sossana, who was not prepared for such a thing, neither materially nor, primarily, emotionally.
The almost cinematic sequence of events and circumstances, where arrogance and reckless underestimation of risks, due to repeated successes, meet collapse in the form of Divine Justice, represents, if we can say, the "moral lesson" of the book.
