SMYRNA 1922. Young Michael is in the great church of Saint Photini when he hears a loud argument coming from the women's gallery. It is the voices of Father Theophilos with a woman. The next morning, as soon as Michael arrives at the church, an unexpected event awaits him. Theophilos lies in the sanctuary severely injured, while the golden chalice, a gift from King Constantine of Greece, has been stolen from the sacristy. Dionysios, Michael's uncle and head of the guard, takes on the task of solving the case. But Michael also decides to investigate the crime on his own. The first clues lead him to a strange conspiracy, while he is also troubled by the theft of the golden chalice. Thus, one night he decides to return to the scene of the crime. He hides inside the church and, when everyone leaves, begins to search for clues in the sanctuary until he discovers a mysterious crypt. However, he does not know that someone is watching him and his own life may be in danger. An amazing mystery story set against the backdrop of Greek Smyrna before the destruction of 1922.
