Description & Specifications

The purpose of the present book is to present a forgotten old Constantinopolitan rite, the "Embassy." The "Embassy" rite constituted, during the period of the Eastern Roman Empire, from the 6th to the 12th century, the most magnificent liturgical expression of honor and gratitude from Constantinople to the Most Holy Theotokos. Every Friday evening, Constantinople was "dedicated" to the Theotokos.

It is a rite that catechizes the Body of the Church, mystagogically prepares it with prayers, spiritually inspires it with the troparia, teaches it to invoke the Virgin Mother "orthodoxly," and sweetens it spiritually with the continuous maternal invocation to the Theotokos. This book presents historical information and sources regarding the genesis, development, history, reasons for the establishment of the "Embassy," the place where it was celebrated, the liturgical typica and manuscripts that preserve the rite, its order, its typicon, as well as the relationship it had with the Akathist Hymn.

Finally, an attempt is made to restore the liturgical practice of the Embassy rite according to the typica and manuscripts that preserve it, as well as a theological and historical analysis of each part of the rite.
