In the third volume of the section "Studies on the Vlachs", a more detailed record of the historical development of the Vlach populations, settlements, and establishments in the regions of Olympus and Monoglenes is attempted.
The settlements and populations of these two regions constitute metropolitan Vlach groups that developed, however, at some distance from the main mass of Vlach metropolitan centers along Pindus. There have been areas of convergence of the Vlach dispersion, which in turn served as starting points for new settlements.
Nevertheless, these two metropolitan groups, with confirmed roots, at the latest during medieval times, show significant differences between them. Among them, we find all types of Vlach settlements. Both settled and nomadic, semi-nomadic and rural, semi-urban and urban settlements are recorded, alongside the expression of all possible ideological orientations.
Their simultaneous presence in this volume aims to showcase the complex Vlach mosaic and its evolution. Extending such detailed recording and study to other geographical regions could have provided more information about various Vlach settlements and establishments, but it would not have significantly altered the conclusions.
Moreover, if a more detailed examination of Vlach settlements and establishments extended into Epirus and Thessaly, the fundamental view of the Greek division of Vlach identity would be even more reinforced.
