King of Tokyo: Origins is a standalone game in the King of Tokyo series, intended to serve as an entry point for new players, as it comes in a smaller, more accessible package. The game includes four new monsters, a variety of new power cards combined with older ones, energy cubes, and green sugar pies with yellow characters.
The gameplay remains the same as the original version: The goal is to be the first to score 20 points or be the only creature left standing. In each round, you roll six dice, which show the following six symbols: 1, 2, or 3 points, energy, healing, and attack.
In three consecutive rolls, you choose whether to keep or discard each die in order to score points, gain energy, restore health, or attack other players. When you attack, if you are outside Tokyo, you hit whoever is inside Tokyo. If you are inside Tokyo, you hit everyone else!
If someone's health reaches 0, they are out of the game. (You cannot heal while in Tokyo, and the only way to leave the city is to be attacked by someone... which might bring you close to death.) When you gain energy, you store it in cubes, which you can use to buy power cards that have permanent or temporary effects.
