Description

So, has cinema died? In the form we knew it, I fear so. Perhaps it is a whim of History.

Or, its revenge... Although the era of cinema seems to be ending, films are still being made that, if nothing else, provide us glimpses into our world, into people, things, and situations that might otherwise go unnoticed. Against the flood of media, which in their propaganda attempt to convince us of what is real and what is not, cinema still remains, in its happy moments, a reliable image of reality.

The critic is nothing more than a careful viewer. One who knows a little or a lot about cinema. However, sometimes "knowledge puffs up, but love builds up." Love has a more devoted gaze. Thus, criticism, as strange as it may sound, is an act of love towards cinema. Which means, among other things, that the Bazin doctrine always applies: it is better to write about films you love.

In the collection that follows, we talk more about films we cherished. Although you cannot always avoid writing about certain films that were discussed in their time, even if they are not those you loved. After all, cinema is an experience. And a public event. A journey with the whole world at our disposal, as the dreamy inventor of cinema would say.

The films included here show that cinema is still alive. True cinema and its true creators will always, even as successors, through the illusion of moving and speaking images, reflect real life. And one more thing: In times of a flood of cameras everywhere, cinema is a strong life jacket.
