Discover the Vimatarissa (Ktitorissa), an icon housed in the place of honor in the sanctuary of the church.
In the 10th century, during an Arab raid on the monastery, the hierodeacon Savvas, who was serving as the sanctuary keeper at the time, managed to hide the icon and the cross of Constantine the Great in the well of the sanctuary. He also placed a lit candle in front of them. Seventy years later, the icon, the cross, and the candle were found untouched, with the candle still burning.
The icon symbolizes resilience and divine protection. In remembrance of this miracle, a supplicatory canon to the Most Holy Theotokos is chanted every Monday evening, while Divine Liturgy is celebrated in the katholikon every Tuesday.
