I had been waiting for this particular grinder to arrive in Greece since November, when it was announced on YouTube channels. I finally found exactly the one I wanted—the white one—in April.
From the very first day, though not on the first attempt, I enjoyed a coffee I had no idea my machine could make.
Last year, when I bought the machine (Gaggia Classic 2019) and entered the world of espresso home enthusiasts, I didn’t know why I should spend more on a grinder than the machine itself had cost. I understood why fairly quickly, to be honest, but deciding on the brand / model / price required serious research and took some time. In the end, this particular grinder got the green light because of Eureka’s reputation and its 65 mm burrs.
Its advantages include virtually zero ground coffee retention and a speed that, for me, although I have nothing to compare it with, is perfectly acceptable. I do have one complaint about the operating noise because, although it’s a heavy build at around 5.5 kg, it rattles (it isn’t particularly audible in the video because I’m not grinding beans). The new Eureka display system is also a great convenience, as it’s now simple and functional.

Among the grinder’s problem areas, I’d mention the chosen solution for stabilizing the metal grounds container. The metal fork that holds it in place is perfectly fine and effective, but a few months later it started to “sag” because it was no longer possible to tighten the screw that adjusts its height, since the screw is metal but threads into a plastic body. The threads simply gave out. The solution was to add a washer and nut to the back of the screw, so it no longer sags, but can no longer be adjusted either.
Περίμενα να έρθει στην Ελλάδα ο συγκεκριμένος μύλος από το Νοέμβριο που ανακοινώθηκε σε κανάλια του YouTube. Τελικά βρήκα αυτόν ακριβώς που ήθελα, δλδ τον λευκό, τον Απρίλιο.
Από την πρώτη μέρα, αν και όχι από την πρώτη προσπάθεια, απόλαυσα έναν καφέ που δεν είχα ιδέα ότι η μηχανή μου μπορούσε να μου προσφέρει.
Πέρυσι που αγόρασα τη μηχανή (Gaggia Classic 2019) και μπήκα στο χώρο των espresso home enthusiasts δεν ήξερα γιατί θα έπρεπε να δαπανήσω περισσότερα για έναν μύλο από το κόστος της μηχανής. Το κατάλαβα αρκετά γρήγορα είναι η αλήθεια αλλά η απόφαση ως προς εταιρεία / μοντέλο / κόστος απαιτούσε σοβαρή μελέτη και πήρε τον καιρό της. Τελικά ο συγκεκριμένος μύλος πήρε το πράσινο φως λόγω της φήμης της Eureka και των 65mm burrs.
Στα θετικά του είναι η μηδαμινή κατακράτηση αλεσμένου καφέ και ο χρόνος που, για μένα, αν και χωρίς μέτρο σύγκρισης, είναι άνετα αποδεκτός. Παράπονα έχω από τον ήχο λειτουργίας γιατί, αν και βαριά κατασκευή περί τα 5.5 κιλά, τρίζει (δεν ακούγεται ιδιαίτερα στο βίντεο γιατί δεν τρίβω κόκκους). Επίσης μεγάλη ευκολία το νέο σύστημα ένδειξης της Eureka που πλέον είναι απλό και λειτουργικό.

Στα προβληματικά σημεία του μύλου θα αναφέρω την επιλεγείσα λύση σταθεροποίησης του μεταλλικού δοχείου συλλογής. Η μεταλλική διχάλα που τον συγκρατεί είναι μια χαρά, αποτελεσματική, αλλά κάτι μήνες μετά άρχισε να "πέφτει" γιατί δεν ήταν πλέον δυνατόν να σφίξει η βίδα που τη σταθεροποιεί σε ύψος καθότι είναι μεταλλική αλλά βιδώνει σε πλαστικό σώμα. Οι βόλτες απλά παρέδωσαν. Η λύση ήταν να προσθέσω στο πίσω μέρος της βίδας μια ροδέλα με παξιμάδι οπότε δεν πέφτει πια αλλά ταυτόχρονα δε ρυθμίζεται.
