The beauty of Chinese embroidery is exquisitely represented on the Blue Frog cover. The design here originates from a skirt called mamianqun, worn by Han women in traditional Hanfu attire. An ancient form of Chinese clothing, Hanfu dates back over three thousand years to the Song and Liao dynasties.

The variation of mamianqun on our cover is called langaqun, featuring bold pleats, often embellished with black. Here is an example made from soft blue silk taffeta, embroidered with gold thread and finished with silk satin.

The stylistic influence of Hanfu has shaped the traditional attire of many cultures, such as the Korean hanbok and the Japanese kimono. Particularly, the mamianqun has undergone many changes throughout history, surviving through numerous dynasties and influencing style in the Western world.
