For the chickens, for the past 1.5 years, I had made wooden nests and put sawdust inside. I never had a problem and of course my chickens never ate the eggs; I just tried the plastic nest as a better solution.
When I removed the old wooden nests and put in 3 of these plastic nests, at first for 3-4-5 days they laid eggs on the ground. Then some started laying inside and some continued on the ground. Never, ever, in the 1-1.5 months I had them, did I manage to get them all to lay inside the plastic nests. Half of them laid on the ground.
I removed the plastic ones and put back the old wooden nest with the sawdust. At first, all of them laid their eggs inside the wooden nest, then one strayed for 2-3 weeks but eventually now all of them continue to lay inside the wooden nest.
Generally, I notice that these changes affect the chickens and their habits.
The material itself seems to be of good quality and indeed the egg rolls where it should without breaking. It does its job just fine! However, it needs to be washed regularly because it gets dirty from the chickens' feet and sometimes this causes the egg to stop at an obstacle and not roll all the way to the front compartment.
I will definitely try it again when I have new chickens and before they lay for the first time, to see if it works better if they learn this way from the start.
As a solution, I liked it quite a lot because the eggs are collected where they should be, it's just that my chickens are probably unruly and stubborn so I didn't get the desired result.
My review is generally about the product as I see different listings of the same product on Skroutz depending on the seller.
