The Various Verses constitute the most extensive metrical work of the Byzantine poet Christopher of Mytilene.
It consists of 145 poems, in which the skilled poet Mytilene captures the Constantinople of the 11th century through miniature portraits of people, descriptions of places, and recordings of events, etc.
Thus, the reader has the opportunity to get to know the capital of Byzantium, historical figures of the era, as well as moments of daily life through the high aesthetics and the precision of Mytilene's technique, who left an indelible mark on the literary Byzantine poetry.
The Appendix of this publication includes, translated into Modern Greek, some of the epigrams of John Mauropus, Metropolitan of Euchaia, to demonstrate the interaction between two Byzantine poets of the intellectual elite of Constantinople in the 11th century.
