How to use the Lithops & Split Rock (Pleiospilos) Soil Mix:
Using the mix is easy! Start by removing as much of the old soil as possible. Gently squeeze the pot while holding it on its side to loosen the plant. Rinse the roots under lukewarm tap water to remove any remaining pieces and debris. Also, make sure to remove any dead foliage that may still be on the plant using scissors. Now your plant is ready for the fresh Lithops & Split Rock soil.
Add a small layer of the Lithops & Split Rock mix to the bottom of the pot. Place the plant in the pot and slowly add Lithops & Split Rock soil around the sides to fill it in. Make sure that the point where the roots meet the plant is just buried below the Lithops & Split Rock soil. Lightly tap the Lithops & Split Rock mix into the pot.
Be sure to water the Lithops & Split Rock mix well after transplanting, as this helps settle the mix and the roots. Lithops mix the drainage very quickly due to perlite and pumice, sand helps weigh the plants down, and a small number of worm castings helps hold a bit of water when you water, giving them enough time to take a drink.
Lithops & Split Rocks come from rocky, sandy deserts where the sun is abundant and water is sparse. They rely on sparse rainfall, and some species depend solely on fog! They thrive in well-draining soils that consist mainly of stones and sand. This Lithops mix mimics that environment!
