Description

Description

The Noisy Tones are eight sound-producing, kinetic sculptures created by Nikos Tsinikas over the last three years. Each of these “machines” has its own way of producing sounds, inspired in some cases by musical instruments.

By striking with a mallet or with fingers, sounds, noises, and tones are produced that can be perceived as polyphony, monophony, soundscapes, or free musical melodies, and can complement visual and performing arts.

The process of realizing the work requires patience and a love for music, beginning with the conceptualization of the idea. This is followed by the first sketches and designs, patterns, market research, construction, and assembly.

In parallel with the presentation, it is explored whether the sound of these sound sculptures is a pure tone, note, phoneme, noise, or “noisy tone”. Nikos Tsinikas is an emeritus professor at the Department of Architecture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
