The refractometer is an accurate optical instrument for determining the amount of salt in marine aquariums. A few drops allow for the determination of the salt concentration in seconds, either as an absolute amount of salt (salinity) in ‰, ppt, or as density. Its operating principle is based on the determination of the refractive index of light, which directly depends on the amount of salt in the solution. Thanks to the built-in LED lighting, good readability is ensured even in poor lighting conditions.
