Physical Chemistry forms the basis for the interpretation of all other branches of Chemistry, as well as related sciences such as Geology, Pharmacy, and Biology. It is based on the fundamental principles of Physics, but takes into account the great complexity introduced by chemical reactions.
The late Professor N. Katsanos made a significant contribution to the Greek literature by composing a book that covers the fundamental chapters of the field. The successive editions have led to gradual improvements, and this is the purpose of the new edition.
Apart from a slight adjustment of the language, many figures have been redesigned, theory and exercises have been checked, the bibliography and the definitions of measurement units have been updated, and sections that do not correspond to current experimental technology have been removed.
The essential changes are not spectacular, because the basic principles of Physical Chemistry have been documented from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century, but significant effort has been made towards an aesthetic upgrade of the book. I hope the renewed work continues to serve the scientific community and students who have appreciated the conciseness of this textbook.
