Description

A competitive diver and an exceptional swimmer venture into forbidden waters in this romantic college story from the Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author of the book The Love Hypothesis. Scarlett Vandermeer swims against the current. A student at Stanford and an athlete specializing in diving, she prefers to keep her head down, focusing on her admission to medical school and recovering from the injury that almost ended her career.

She has no time for relationships — at least, that's what she tells herself. The captain of the swim team, world champion Lukas Blomkvist, draws strength from discipline. That's how he wins gold medals and breaks records: full concentration, with every move.

On the surface, Lukas and Scarlett have nothing in common. Until a well-kept secret is revealed and everything changes. This is how they begin an agreement.

As the pressure with the approaching Olympic Games intensifies, so does their relationship. It was supposed to be just a temporary, mutually satisfying adventure. But when breaking away from Lukas becomes impossible, Scarlett realizes that her heart may be at risk in deadly waters...

  • ‍♀️ Deep End was a surprise that sucked me in from the first page. If you love romances with intense chemistry, a strong female lead, and a setting that combines the college vibe with competitive sports, then this book is for you.

Scarlett is a character with depth – dynamic, focused, and quite stubborn. After a serious injury, she tries to find her rhythm again without being distracted by "unnecessary emotions." Lucas, on the other hand, is the typical golden boy – athlete, disciplined, a bit distant. But as the story progresses, you see that he has his cracks too. And that’s where the good stuff begins.

Their relationship builds gradually, based on a "deal," as we often see in fake dating tropes, only here it’s not fake – it’s more of a test run that evolves into something much more. The scenes between them have intensity, but also sensitivity. And as the Olympics approach, the emotional weight increases.

I liked that the book gave time for the personal development of both characters, not just the relationship. It had spice, it had emotion, and it had a sports atmosphere that made the setting feel authentic.

If you liked The Love Hypothesis, Deep End has a similar energy, but with much more swim tension!
