Why should we learn the Fortran language today?

Fortran is a programming language designed primarily for solving complex scientific and technological problems, but it can also be used in any other field with high computational needs, such as meteorology, numerical analysis, etc. Learning the Fortran language not only allows for an easy introduction to modern computer programming techniques but also makes the Fortran learner a participant in the large family of specialized programmers who tackle modern scientific problems.

What does the book contain?

Typically, a book on the Fortran language exclusively covers a standardized version, such as FORTRAN 77. Often, the newer versions of the language (mainly Fortran 90/95 and to a lesser extent Fortran 2003) are also mentioned. This book first develops the standard capabilities of the basic version, that is, FORTRAN 77, and highlights the improvements of Fortran 90/95. Next, it explains in detail, with many examples, the features introduced by the newer standardized versions of the language, such as Fortran 2003, Fortran 2008, and Fortran 2018.

Who is this book for?

This book is highly recommended for all new programmers, especially for scientific computing programmers. It is also suggested for those programmers who have gained experience in programming with the standard programming language FORTRAN 77 or Fortran 90/95 and wish to update and supplement their knowledge in order to take advantage of the new features of the language introduced with the Fortran 2003, Fortran 2008, and Fortran 2018 versions. Additionally, it is recommended for Fortran programmers who want to visualize the results of complex problems immediately in the form of graphical representations.
