Nintendo characters can now come to life in many new forms as amiibo figures. Amiibo are interactive figures that have the ability to communicate with games specifically designed for this purpose, simply by touching them to the Wii U GamePad. Amiibo can interact with amiibo-compatible games by reading data in the game and storing data on the figure.

In Super Smash Bros Wii U, players can fight with or against their amiibo figures while leveling them up in the process. They can then transfer them to another Wii U console and showcase how they trained and customized them. Various amiibo-compatible games will use amiibo in different ways. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to use amiibo. Games such as Mario Party 10, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Yoshi's Woolly World are also expected to support amiibo.
