Nintendo characters can now come to life in many new ways as amiibo figures. They are interactive figures with the ability to communicate with games specially designed for amiibo compatibility, simply by touching them to the Wii U GamePad.

Amiibo figures can interact with games that support amiibo when the player touches them to the Wii U GamePad, reading data into the games and saving data to the figure. In Super Smash Bros Wii U, players can battle with or against the amiibo figures they own, while evolving them in the process.

They can also transfer them to another Wii U console and showcase how they have trained and customized their own amiibo figures. Different amiibo-compatible games will use them in various ways. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to use amiibo.
