Verbascum thapsus, also known as Mullein, Melissandrou, Kalanthropos, Tongue, and St. John's Candle, has soothing properties, especially for respiratory system inflammations. It is traditionally used for respiratory problems, eye inflammations, diarrhea, and as a healing agent.
Contains: saponins, iridoids, glycosides, flavonoids, vitamin C, and minerals.
Functions as:
- soothing, antispasmodic, antibacterial, and emollient for respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, cough, shortness of breath, and flu.
- laxative/purgative for gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea and urinary irregularities.
- soothing/cleansing for skin and eye conditions such as conjunctivitis, burns, and hemorrhoids.
- tonic for the nervous system.
Usage Instructions:
POULTICE (with milk):
- For boils, abscesses, and hemorrhoids: Add 30g of Mullein to ½ cup of milk and simmer until a paste remains.
DECOCTION:
- For toning the nervous and respiratory systems: 20-30g in 1 liter of water & boil until 1/3 of the quantity remains.
- For compresses for eye cleansing and application on burns.
INFUSION (with honey and vinegar for gargling):
- For laryngitis and flu: 2 teaspoons in 1 cup of boiling water, steep for 7-10 minutes.
