The classic work of Saint Maximus the Confessor, the great theologian of Byzantium, "Chapters on Love," in a critical edition by Aldo Ceresa-Gastaldo, is included by the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi as the second volume of the series "Christian Literature."

Father Nikolaos Loudovikos, professor of religious studies at the University of Ioannina, renowned theologian, philosopher, and psychologist, writes an extensive and well-founded Introduction to his beloved Saint Maximus and thoughtfully comments on the "Chapters."

The "Chapters on Love," as Father Nikolaos states, are not only a classic but literally a contemporary spiritual essay on the great problem of self-love or – in modern terms – narcissism, a problem that today undermines not only the very foundations of the modern self but also contemporary philosophy of history, and even today's political and economic theory.

The translation/adaptation of the "Chapters" was done by the philologist Anna Loudovikou.
