Collagen is a group of fibrous proteins found in all multicellular animals that provide tensile strength to connective tissues. They are the main proteins in bones, tendons, and skin. There are 28 different types of collagen in our body. The main types are Type I, Type II, and Type III. Type I collagen is found in the skin, nails, hair, muscles, tendons, and bones. Type II collagen is found in joint cartilage. Fibroblasts are the cells that form collagen and polysaccharides. With age, collagen and its production in the body decrease.
