Lila hides in her heart a secret place where every night the shadows gather to play. She had never paid much attention to her Shadow until it started behaving strangely. When Lila raised her left hand, the Shadow raised its right; when Lila sat down, the Shadow stood up.

The Shadow loved the darkness. The more darkness it absorbed, the smaller Lila became and the larger the Shadow grew.
