Description

The creative work of Anestis Logothetis (1921-1994) is divided into two periods: the first (1943-1959) includes works in traditional music notation, while the second (1959-1994) contains works in non-conventional music notation (which the composer refers to as "graphic" or "polygraphic").

A key feature of his personal notation system is an original combination of music and visual arts, through which the composer attempted to describe the structure of his works and their evolution over time.

In 1966, despite Logothetis's dedication to his personal notation system, the sudden news of the tragic death of Kalliope Dimitriou, the four-year-old daughter of his close friend and collaborator Socrates Dimitriou, seems to have stunned him and spontaneously prompted him to make one single exception.

In a climate of deep mourning, he gathered the traditional notation of the Mourner's Dirges for the funeral service that was held in the Austrian capital.
