Using the correct cuff is essential for an accurate measurement. The correct cuff is one that has the appropriate diameter to match the diameter of the arm of the person using it. Blood pressure monitors offer accurate measurements when the correct cuff is used.

• If the diameter of the arm is larger than the diameter of the cuff, then we have the "small cuff effect." The readings will be higher than the actual ones.
