The GLM-79 blood glucose meter measures glucose in capillary whole blood using an electrochemical biosensor and a 0.8 μL sample. A reading is completed in 8 seconds, and values are displayed in mmol/L or mg/dL. It stores up to 180 results with the time and date and switches off automatically after 3 minutes.

The glucose measurement range is 1.1–33.3 mmol/L or 20–600 mg/dL, while the acceptable hematocrit range is 25%–65%. It operates at a temperature of 10–40 °C and a relative humidity of 20%–80%. It is powered by a 3 V CR2032 lithium battery, with a lifespan of approximately 1,000 measurements.
