Rose Blanche was the name of a group of young German citizens who, at the risk of their lives, protested against the war. Like them, Rose observes all the changes happening around her, which others choose to ignore. She watches the streets of her small German town fill with soldiers. One day she sees a small boy escaping from the back of a truck, only to be caught by the mayor and pushed back into it. Rose follows the truck to a deserted place outside the town, where she discovers many other children, looking longingly from behind an electric wire fence. She begins to bring food to the children, instinctively realizing the need for secrecy, even with her mother. Until the direction of the war changes and soldiers in different uniforms find their way from the East, and Rose and the imprisoned children disappear forever . . .
