The first comprehensive monograph on interdisciplinary practice, featuring over 100 constructed and temporary works. Since its founding in 1981, the New York-based studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) has designed some of the world's most recognizable public spaces and cultural institutions. Their practice spans architecture, urban design, art installations, performance, digital media, and print. From the iconic High Line in New York to the upcoming V&A East Storehouse in London, as well as some of their early works like the Blur building designed for the Swiss Expo in 2002, DS+R explores alternative strategies in space creation that engage and surprise globally. Designed by DS+R as a pair of structurally connected volumes, this monograph invites readers to bridge different modes of production and to reassess the boundaries of architecture. The unique binding allows each volume to be read separately or in parallel, unfolding the book along its modular spine. Special interlinked layouts connect the two volumes with shared obsessions. The monograph includes layouts by design consultancy 2x4, with photographs by Iwan Baan and Matthew Monteith among others. It also includes new dialogues with visionaries from other creative fields, such as artist Edmund de Waal, art critic and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator Paola Antonelli, actor Alan Cumming, choreographer William Forsythe, professor Sylvia Lavin, curator Ana Miljacki, and Jill Medvedow.
