Spike Milligan is considered one of the greatest and most influential comedians of the twentieth century. Born in India in 1918, he served in the Royal Artillery during World War II in North Africa and Italy. After the war, he built a career as a jazz musician, writer, and actor, collaborating with Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe to create the legendary Goon Show. By the time of his death in 2002, he had found success both on stage and television as well as a writer of over eighty books of fiction, memoirs, poetry, plays, sketches, and children's stories.
