This delicate oval icon featuring Saint Olympia is depicted in accordance with the traditions of Orthodox iconography. A lithographic reproduction of it is affixed to an artificial wood panel, whose top edge forms an arch, adding extra elegance to the overall design.
Saint Olympia, from a wealthy Byzantine family, was made a deaconess by Patriarch Nektarios after the death of her husband. She dedicated herself to monasticism and founded her own monastery. Her holiness was so great that Saint John Chrysostom sent her 17 letters from exile. She passed away in exile in 407 A.D.
