The art of working with Damascus steel has a long history, with objects made of steel or iron decorated with designs. A thin sheet of gold is placed over the design, with deeply embossed engraving. The design is heated to about 800° C, causing the steel to oxidize and the gold to shine.
This technique was spread by the Arabs to Spain and perfected in the city of Toledo. In 1931, Pelikan adopted this method for the Toledo model, which has retained its original design.
The decorative casing is made of Sterling silver and covered with a layer of gold. Each Toledo fountain pen is unique, with handmade engravings and a limited production of 200 pieces per month. The cap and both ends are made of high-quality black resin.
It operates with a piston mechanism and features a pelican-shaped clip, an ink level inspection window, and the company's logo on the top. It is offered with an 18-carat gold engraved nib (F/M/B). It is 14.2 centimeters long, 1.35 centimeters wide, and weighs 40 grams.
