The art of working with Damascus steel has deep roots in history. Objects made of steel or iron are decorated by engraving designs on their surface. A thin sheet of gold is placed over the design and, with the help of a hammer, is deeply embossed into the material. By heating to a temperature of about 800° C, the steel surfaces oxidize and turn black, while the gold gains a shine.
This technique, which traveled with the Arabs to Spain, has been perfected, especially in the city of Toledo. In 1931, Pelikan adopted this method for the Toledo model, which has remained almost unchanged over the years. The decorative casing is made of Sterling silver and covered with a layer of gold.
Each Toledo fountain pen is unique, made in Germany, with the tiny engravings being handmade, making it special. Due to high demand, a maximum of 200 pieces are produced each month. The cap and both ends are made of high-quality black resin.
It operates with a piston, with a pelican-shaped clip and features a window for ink level monitoring. At the top is the company's logo.
The nib is gold, engraved, 18 carats with writing thickness F/M/B (you can choose the desired nib in the order comments).
