In this work, the recording of the History of Urban Planning from the liberation struggle and the establishment of the Greek State to World War II goes beyond the simple documentation of technical aspects of the past, such as plans, legislations, and tables, and extends to the search for the cause of evolution and the evaluation of their relationship with society. Therefore, the exclusively factual approach to urban planning legislations deliberately denies the protective function of urban development as a socio-economic component and consciously displaces its historical legitimization.

The authors begin with the basic historical elements, outlining the evolution of the newly established State and its organizational structure, the economic and social conditions that prevailed, and the dominant political forces that emerged within them. Subsequently, it is highlighted that the recording of the history of urban development extends across a vast range of cognitive fields, such as law, sociology, and economics, combined with specialized knowledge regarding public health and the environment, which intertwine and coexist with politics.

With the above content, all critical urban planning events are illuminated in an extremely useful way for every interested student, engineer, lawyer, and ultimately citizen, who wishes to engage with urban planning, urban legislation, and urban practice from the 19th century to the mid-20th century.
