The Penguin Readers series is a publishing series of ELT graded readers for students of English as a foreign language. With adapted text, new illustrations, and language learning exercises, the print edition includes instructions for accessing online support material.
The titles include popular classic works, exciting contemporary literature, and challenging non-fiction, introducing students to bestselling authors and engaging content.
The eight levels of Penguin Readers follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The exercises at the end of each Reader help students practice grammar, vocabulary, and essential exam skills. Questions before, during, and after reading test story comprehension and develop vocabulary.
"After You" is a Level 5, B1 Reader according to the CEFR. The text consists of sentences with up to four clauses, introducing the present perfect continuous, past perfect, reported speech, and the second conditional. It is well supported by illustrations, which appear regularly.
Lou now lives in London and tries to be happy, but it's hard when she misses Will so much. One night, a young girl appears at her door. “My name is Lily Houghton-Miller,” she says. “I need to talk to you about my father – Will Traynor.”
